AFC North Champs!

After a 17-6 victory over the Jets today, the Pittsburgh Steelers are AFC North Champions and still have a chance at getting Home Field Advantage throughout the playoffs. The offense wasn't exceptional, to say the least, but again, we pulled out a win against a strong team and did it for the 11th time in a row.
Jerome Bettis, having a superb game of his own, was undoubtedly the star today. He ran for 57 yards, on only 10 carries, and surpassed the 13,000 yard-mark for his career. But Bettis wasn't done. He threw a touchdown pass to Tuman early in the fourth quarter on a 3rd and 3.

The Steelers are on their way to something big, and it doesn't seem like anyone knows how to stop them.

Just how important IS sunday's game?

Tied with New England and Philly for the best record in the NFL (11-1), and having crushed both teams earlier in the season, the Steelers are ranked first - but not without some serious hesitation. The last few weeks haven't been the brightest for the Steelers, but they continue winning and no one has any legitimate claim to knock them from their first place standing. However, skeptics throughout the NFL are waiting for the Steelers to falter so they can replace them with the either the Patriots or Eagles. There's just no way Cowher will let that happen tomorrow, this game just means too much...

With a win against the Jets, the Steelers clinch the AFC North, securing themselves a spot in the playoffs. Roethlisberger is playing against another former MAC quarterback and would love to go 2-0 this season against his former conference rivals. Considering the Patriots have only one possible tough game left (against the Jets, the three other teams they play have combined won 9 games this season), the Steelers must play flawless football in order to secure Home Field Advantage, and it must start now.

I'm predicting a win against the Jets - and I better be right...

Burress out again...

After injuring his hamstring against Cincinnati in week 11, Plaxico Burress is forced to sit out Sunday's game against the Jets. Burress is undoubtedly one of the hardest players to lose to injuries, but the Steelers seem to be doing okay without him. Antwaan Randle El has been starting in place of Burress and is playing well. He has 108 yard combined over the last two games and, along side Heinz Ward, Randle El is setting up good down-field opportunities for Roethlisberger. Hopefully Burress will return when we play the Giants next Saturday, but until then, it looks like the Steelers will be okay with out him.

Rookie of the Week

For the 8th time this season, Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was voted NFL Rookie of the Week. After his superb play sunday against the Jaguars, it was no surprise that voters on NFL.com gave him the honor. Up against tough competition from other star rookie players this week, Roethlisberger took the award by beating out Lee Evans (Buffalo), Steven Jackson (St. Louis), Julius Jones (Dallas), and Kevin Jones (Detroit). Roethlisberger passed for 221 yards and ran for another 40. Anyone who thought that all opposing teams needed to do was shut down Roethlisberger and the Steelers would crumble, must start rethinking their game plan. Roethlisberger is playing like a seasoned veteran and simply seems to be unstopable.

You can vote for your favorite rookie Tuesday through Thursday by going to Pepsi's Rookie of the Week Contest.

3 more wins...11-1

Three games have come and gone since my last entry and the Steelers continue shining through their phenomenal season. Rookie Ben Roethlisberger has now led the Steelers to 10 straight wins, a feat no other rookie quarterback has ever accomplished. Skeptics have tried to focused on Roethlisberger’s slight decline in accuracy in the last few games, but they have very little to show for it. The Steelers just keep winning.
Sunday night, in front of a packed Alltel Stadium, the very stadium the Steelers are hoping to return to in January for Super Bowl XXXIX, Roethlisberger found himself forced to lead his team 56 yards with 1:55 left in the game and down by two points. Remaining calm throughout, he brought the Steelers within field goal range, executed near perfect clock management, and handed the game over to field goal kicker Jeff Reed to clinch the win. With a final score of 17-16, the Steelers left Jacksonville victorious and are now ready to take on their next victim, the New York Jets.

Lets keep those wins coming...

Roethlisberger takes us to 8-1

This page is dedicated to Pittsburgh Steelers and their hopefully superbowl-bound season. They are playing better this season than they have in years and are being led by a phenominal rookie quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers defensive resembles the flawless play of the 1970's Steel Curtain and the 1990s Blitzburgh.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I grew up as a huge Steelers fan and continue cheering for them today! You can check out much more about them at The Steelers Home Page.

Until next time...
